What Does "Managed Services" or "Network Monitoring" Mean?

As companies grow in both size and in the scope of their IT Network infrastructure it becomes important for them to be intimately aware of the health of each machine on their network. This can be a complicated process for most companies, as it can require IT professionals to log in to each machine, monitor the log files, look at the fragmentation of drives, etc. If you have a large network with numerous servers and workstations it can become cost prohibitive and be a major draw down on resources.

The solution to this conundrum is from a service known as "Managed Services" or "Network Monitoring Services" - these services are generally provided by outsourced IT agencies, where they are able to install monitoring tools that report back to the IT company the health details of each machine on the network. This gives them the ability to remotely administer updates, patches, defragmentation, network diagnostics, process bottlenecks, license renewals, and many other valuable metrics for server and network health.

Using managed services provides companies with a proactive methodology for maintaining network health. Studies show that this process of intervening and monitoring prior to a critical failure leads to shorter down-times, faster overall recovery and progressive strategy that does not take away from the core functions of the small business.

For many small businesses it is unlikely that they have a staffed IT professional within their office, opting instead to outsource to an IT company that handles many of the expansion and "break-fix" repairs of their equipment and systems. Though this seems like an effective way to keep costs down, most companies do not factor in the lost revenue associated with critical systems failures and higher price tags connected on-site support. Imagine an automobile that you have never taken to have a tune-up or oil change. After a while, simply operating the vehicle can cause the car to fail. Once this happens you end up taking it to the shop and having to replace components that would have otherwise not been destroyed, had the car simply been well maintained. These repairs often cost much more money than a simple oil change, and result in greater downtime (parts must be ordered or repairs take longer). In much the same way, your computer and network infrastructure is your vehicle. Abuse it, or ignore the maintenance and you will end up paying more for things in the long run.

So what is the middle ground? How do you proactively protect the health of your network while keeping the costs within check? There are several ways that companies can effectively take advantage of Managed Services. Most IT companies that provide Managed Services, or Network Monitoring provide different service levels. The lowest generally being a simple monitoring service- They notify you when there is an issue or a serviceable item. You can choose whether to have the IT Company address it and then bill you for the time or to ignore that particular issue. This is the simplest form of network monitoring, and is generally a rather cost effective way of staying aware of your systems health.

The next tier offered will often have several health components monitored and automatically fixed. This can be an excellent entrance into Managed Services, because the IT Company will handle the majority of the issues on your computer system without you having to be involved in the processes, and by doing so you will not have to endure downtime, or can be prepared for system failures and take proactive steps to minimize or eliminate the issues (drive failures, equipment failure, etc).

The top tier Managed Services will generally have included remote support or help desk services, allowing unlimited remote support of the network and computer systems. This can be an excellent way for small businesses to have the benefit of an IT professional without the sizable annual salary of an on-site IT professional.

No matter what your situation or circumstances, it is always a good idea to be as proactive as possible within your business means. It is always easier to handle an issue before it spirals into a critical failure.

Remote Desktop Service - Advantages, Disadvantages and Its Monitoring

Remote desktop service is a technology enabling you to sit at a computer and connect to a remote computer (host computer) in a different location. In other words, you can get access to your office computer from your home desktop and can use all your files, applications, and network resources exactly as you use to work on your office computer. You need to leave your office computer on with programs running and when you get home you can watch your work computer's desktop seen on your home computer, with the same programs running.

Industry Application Remote Desktop Service

RDS is successfully applied in multiple industries for the management of IT infrastructure. Now, leveraging RDS, new applications or updates can be installed in all the computers through single command without practically doing it separately. In addition several computer problems can be identified and debugged by remotely accessing the affected computer.

In education field also several educational institutions are using RDS for offering students the option of distance learning. Students can learn or watch a presentation or do exercise by getting connected to a computer at their school.

RDS is also being used in telecommuting sector. Lot of telecommuting opportunities are available these days wherein an employee can work from anywhere with an access to a PC with an internet connection.

Advantages and Disadvantages

With the availability of the high-speed internet access you can now host your software applications hosted remotely, which will enable global businesses access to shared applications easily without the need of any IT specialist and prominent computer knowledge.

The advantages of Remote Desktop are:
1. Disaster Recovery: In RDS there is no fear of losing any data by theft or disaster, because all documents and files are stored in secure data centers. All connections to your remote desktop are encrypted to ensure your correspondences are safe and secured from being hacked.

2. Freedom to Work from Anywhere: This system enables you to move with your laptop or computer system and work seamlessly from anywhere, anytime.

3. Cost Effective: This remote desktop system will cut down your cost of purchasing Microsoft Office Suite as it generally comes with remote IT system package.

Remote desktop service, being one of the most popular remote software service necessities for many businesses, it also comes with certain disadvantages which include:

1. Powerful RDS Required: The remote desktop service should be powerful enough to be able to monitor all connections. As several computers are monitored through a centralized RDS hence the capacity of RDS needs to be powerful enough to take the functional load of multiple computer systems or else the entire setup may go haywire.

2. RDS Monitoring Required: The remote desktop service is the prominent source of risk of downtime. The entire system will collapse if the remote desktop service will fail unless a RDS monitoring system is in place.

3. Reliable Network Required: The performance of the system entirely is also impacted by the network credibility. The entire system will be down if the network of remote desktop service is disruptive.

4. Right Adjustment in Network Required: The network should be adjusted and sized suitably just to ensure that it should not become the bottleneck when remote desktop services are established.

5. Knowledgeable Administrator: The administrator needs to be skilled and should have necessary knowledge and be available in the business hours.

Remote Desktop Services Monitoring
Given the above benefits and disadvantages, it is quite imperative to have RDS monitoring system for its functionality, availability, responsiveness and appropriate performance. This remote desktop services monitoring system usually generates a real time alert, in case any problem in the RDS accessed application is being witnessed. This alert enables the IT specialists to rectify the error before it disrupts end users' systems.

Tevron is a software development company offering most powerful and extensive range of RDS Monitoring, application monitoring tools, application monitoring systems, SLA, and automated testing solutions. The specialties of Tevron applications lie in its scalability, flexibility and its supportiveness to all environments.

Monitoring server-select the Best route to implement this

One of the things to remember about server monitoring, which is very important, it probably would be the fact that it is something that needs to be done with precision. Given the sheer number of things that can go wrong with the server and the consequences may be in your network you might want to use caution and ensure that no such difficulty may arise. Being a somewhat safe and intelligent, it is possible that you do not need to worry as much about something wrong happen to the server. In most cases, it is quite possible.

Some companies resort to having a tech team and be a concurrent system as well as monitoring. Because any user can imagine, this is not really well and can end with a lot of complications, which would make things very difficult. In reality, the nature of server monitoring would involve looking at the monitors often and monitoring all abnormal activity. If they are spotted, they quickly fixed in order to ensure the smooth functioning without any kind of problems. This is ultimately what contributes to the efficient and effective network.

However, if you assign tasks to a monitoring server overloaded may be rest assured that the monitoring, take a seat. In this connection, the problems will be dealt with only if it is too late and after reaching a critical stage. Is the thing that makes all the difference in the end, and finally define how networks are seen by clients or even your own employees. Just like how they write about preventing is better than cure, always a Wise idea to be familiar with the challenges you can get to the last instead of something in minutes.
